Add Value to Your Resume: Video
We often talk about how the Web “adds value” to content. Your Web skills can add value to you, too, especially if you’re a college student seeking a summer internship or your first job.
As you head into job interviews, or update your resume, think about what Web skills you have that “add value” to you. Don’t have any? It’s not too late to get some: Get experience with HTML or with a CMS, practice handling a camera and editing with Final Cut. Whatever it is, add some value to your skills.
Two years ago, I signed up for a workshop and learned about shooting and editing video in Final Cut. This semester, I’m sitting in on a film class as a student. I’m buying an SLR camera next week. A grad student is going to teach me some photography basics so I can graduate from “point and shoot” to something a little more sophisticated.
What are you doing to add value to your skill set? Perhaps you’re thinking you’re too busy. Perhaps you should re-think that, because if you don’t update and upgrade yourself, you may not get that job or internship. Result: You won’t be so busy after all!
Our video about adding value is now available on iTunes, where you can download it to your iPod or other portable device.
