For the month of May, we are devoting this blog to our wishes for journalists present and future: “MAY you … “

Every day, you will find a tip, a tidbit or a top-of-mind piece of advice we hope will help you now and later

On the second day of training at Dow Jones News Fund sites across the country, here’s another memory to share from my own training years ago. It has to do with being available and ready and willing to put your talents to work.

May you go beyond what is expected.

Wherever you work as a journalist, you have a role. These days, that role likely is multifaceted. Still, even though you already might be doing a lot, there will be times when you will be asked to do more. Do it.

Your colleagues and your bosses might be too busy at the time to thank you. That’s OK. Be assured that they notice. And that feeling you get from helping out? That should be thanks enough.
