By · Monday, June 29th, 2015

A piece published today by Fast Company, “5 Creative Ways to Prevent Employees Burning Out,” offers some good reminders about balancing work and everything else.

The tips are directed at employers, but anyone can put them to use. And they remind us of some other ways that journalists can help themselves and one another.

First, Fast Company’s tips:

  1. Support side hustles
  2. Give Dads a break, too
  3. Consider a vacation embargo
  4. Redefine the 9-to-5 workday
  5. Encourage employees to socialize

Check out these tips in full; they are a quick read with long-lasting benefits.

And, for journalists — especially those who already have an unconventional work schedule and workplace setup — here are some more ways you can keep a proper balance.

Think of your life as a giant seesaw or teeter-totter — full of extreme highs and lows. That’s what makes it a thrill. But you need balance to get off the ride.
